How to get first credit card?
January 19th, 2008 Posted in First Credit Card
I have been to all the stores (sears, JC Penny, etc) I have also tried applying with my bank and capital one. I can not get approved anywhere. Please, I want to start building my credit and I am only looking to be approved for a small amount. If anyone knows a good first card, please let me know!!
I am 18. I have a checking account with a debit card. But a debit card doesnt raise your credit. I have already tried stores.

It should be really easy to get a credit card, everytime i go somewhere they ask me if i want one from them,,. Go to a jewelry store like tappers. I got my first one from there

I’d suggest getting a gas card.
Be very careful though. Only spend as much as you can pay back each month. I made the mistake of getting into debt thanks to credit cards.
It took me years to get out. CREDIT CARDS ARE EVIL!

Chase gave me my first credit card outside of my bank.
But then that was after already having my bank credit card and a car payment, so you MAY need to build credit up. But try chase, you’ll probably get approved for like 500. (I’m assuming you’re 18 with no credit)

Take a loan out from your bank and then pay it back slowly and consistantly over a years time.

You can build your credit by just paying bills on time. You dont need to build your credit though most of the time. You need to have money to buy things. Credit cards just give you money to loan. CREDIT CARDS ARE EVIL!! If you dont believe me look at the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The rich get richer because they save their money in a bank and accrue compounded interest. The poor get poorer because they borrow money and are charged interest. Most rich people have hardly any credit because they dont need credit due to the fact that they dont buy stuff that they cant pay cash for!

Get a credit card, use it a few times a month, and pay it off every other time, and 3/4 the other half. Every two months call the credit card company and ask for credit line increase. Correct errors on your credit report. Your report must prove to the lender that he will get his money back.
Some retail and gasoline credit cards are not revolving (do not carry a monthly balance) and sometimes are easier to obtain than regular cards. Over time they can help establish history. If you don’t have a checking account, open one. You have very little credibility with lenders if you don’t have at least a checking account and preferably a savings account as well. Just as importantly, be sure not to overdraw your bank account. Bouncing checks sends a signal to potential lenders that you can’t manage your daily finances and are therefore not a good credit risk.
With careful planning and a little knowledge of how lenders issue credit, you CAN establish a credit history fairly painlessly. There are many businesses waiting in line to take advantage of you by charging exorbitant fees or interest rates, so be careful out there.
