I have never had a credit card before and I want one. What are some common things I should watch out for? Are there any offers that look good but actually cost you but don’t help in the long term?
How can I build and maintain a perfect credit score?

I know you need to pay your balance off eventually but it’s always better to pay it off every month, thats what i plan on doing. What card would you recommend, and how should I get it?

I am 19 years old, a college student, I have a full time job, and so far the only thing on my credit history is 1 year’s worth of on-time payments for my vehicle. None late. I’m not interesting in applying for a card because I need it, I am applying because I’d like to add something else to my credit report to show a good payment history as well. Nothing too over-the-top, preferably with a predictable interest rate; that’s what I’m looking for. Any advice?

I have no loans, I don’t owe anyone money and I never have, my bank account never gets overdrawn, I have had a steady job for over a year where I get paid a good amount, and I still have no luck. I have heard that the more you apply and are turned down, the lower your credit score goes without you even having credit. What can I do?

I got my first credit card when I was 26. It had a limit of $500. It was laughable.
When I was young, in my early 20s, it was a time of very fluid pocket money. I lived with my parents, didn’t pay rent, and didn’t have a lot of bills. So I had a lot of pocket money. Of course, I was limited to buying things in my price range….if I went out to eat, it was usually Chinese. If I bought a car, it was used, you know the drill. I didn’t have credit when I was young, but I had pocket cash….mostly because I didn’t have bills to pay, not because I was rich.
What was it like for you?

I’m buying a house for the first time, is there some way to get $9,000 back from my lender to pay off that debt so I only have the mortgage payment every month? I’m looking to see how a company like First Data or Mastercard makes money. I read that JPMorganChase decided to move away from First Data to process their cards.
Can someone explain how First Data makes money (not via Western Union)?
Am I to understand that they process the credit card or debit payment? So if they process payments for a particular bank or credit card company, they make a fee for every transaction? What is that fee normally?
Is this in addition to the fees Mastercard or Visa makes as well?
It seems to me that credit card usage will keep increasing, even in rough economic times, and that the companies that will benefit would be companies like First Data and Mastercard. Can someone chime in on that? Thanks in advance!

Believe it or not the interest on my auto loan is higher than my credit card. (~12% for auto loan compared to ~10% on credit card). I owe approximately $5000 on each. Common sense would say to pay on the higher interest first. However, are there other factors I should consider such as how often the interest is compounded?
Both interest rates are fixed. Sorry forgot to add that.

Hello there, I have a question regarding managing my credit score. Here’s the deal. Last time I checked my score was something of 615, I checked it to get a loan which I got it. The score I got was because of the fact that I was almost maxing out my credit card limit. I have 3 cc, I recently totally paid off the one with about $3500 which was not reported to the scoring bureau yet, but I still have about $3500 on the other 2. Other 2 comes with no interest/no payment option until sometime in future. I have been thinking of buying a new TV set, which would cost about $2500, but I am seriously thinking about paying off credit cards first and buy the TV with saved money, not with credit card. Since I will not be checking back my score any time soon, for a loan, etc, I was thinking of buying TV with recently paid off cc then pay off the balance on all 3. In time, I will bring down the balance to below 25% of my limit, thus increase my score, but what do you think I should do now?

I have a credit card that is over my credit limit but is still open or I have a card that is below the limit but has been closed by the creditor.
What is the best card to pay off first, asuming that the interest rates are the same. I’m leaning towards the open account that is over limit.
Which one would show most favorably on my credit file?
I don’t USE credit cards, only cash, so lectures about not using the cards is not needed. I made a mistake now I’m paying for it. Iw ill glady pay off my debts instead of taking the cowards way out and declare bankrupty.
No over limit fees, all of those are waived.
Likewise I am already paying well over the minimum payments on each one, but am thinking that I would knock one of the cards down to the mimimum payment and double up payments on the card that is not closed, but it over limit.
Sounds as if I’m heading in the right track.
thanks

I have heard that you have a 3-payment-cycle grace period, in which your payment habits do not affect your credit. Is this true? Or does your credit start being affected as soon as you make your first payment?

I have three credit cards with roughly $6,000 combined balanced between them and I’m thinking of paying the one that has the less debt first (which also has the lowest interest rate) and then pay my other two slowly.
What I mean is, I’m trying to make more, bigger payments to the credit card that has the least balance in order to get rid of it first.
Should I concentrate on the credit cards that have the highest interests, or should I knock out the one with the lowest interests first?
